I am Laura French, craftswoman, designer and owner behind Madrock Design Woodworking, a local company specializing in handmade and completely one-of-a-kind wooden heirloom projects created with love and an unwavering passion for detail.
The story of Madrock Design Woodworking starts simply with an $8 used coffee table from a thrift shop that changed my life. I purchased it with the intention of repurposing it, which led to my first furniture refinishing course. Thrilled with the end-result, I decided to take a few more classes and quickly realized that woodworking was what I was truly passionate about.
In 2015, it became apparent that it was time for my own personal “re-purposing” and I left a career of 25+ years in the graphic design industry to become a full-time student in the Humber College Cabinet Making Certificate Course. In August 2016, I graduated with honours.
Madrock Design Woodworking is my way of paying tribute to my Dad, who was also a talented cabinetmaker. Each day I celebrate the opportunity to continue our family tradition, and to utilize my design aesthetics learned from my career in graphic design.
Now, working full-time from my workshop in Toronto, Ontario, my goal is to make beautifully handcrafted wooden pieces that will last years and bring as much joy to my customers as they do for me while I am in the process of creating them.
